Abridge AI Secures $250M for Healthcare AI Expansion

Abridge AI

Abridge AI secured $250 million in Series D funding, raising its valuation to $2.75 billion. Likewise, this investment marks a major financial milestone for the company.

Elad Gil and IVP co-led the funding round, which Abridge announced in February 2025. Bessemer Venture Partners, CapitalG, and CVS Health Ventures also participated.

Hospitals and healthcare providers increasingly adopt AI to streamline documentation, improve efficiency, and reduce physician burnout. Over 100 healthcare systems, including Duke Health, Johns Hopkins, and Mayo Clinic, already use Abridge’s AI-powered scribing technology.

With this funding, Abridge plans to improve its AI models, hire more staff, and expand partnerships. Moreover, the company continues to increase its presence in AI-driven healthcare documentation.

Abridge Expands AI Capabilities in Healthcare

Abridge’s technology is designed to transcribe, summarize, and structure medical conversations into clinical notes that integrate seamlessly with electronic health record (EHR) systems. For instance, the company says its AI can improve documentation speed, reduce physician workload, and enhance patient care.

In October 2024, Abridge became the first generative AI company to be ranked across three categories in the KLAS Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report. This particularly highlights its growing influence in automating medical workflows.

Industry experts note that hospitals are adopting AI-powered documentation tools to reduce costs and meet healthcare regulations.

Abridge recently announced a strategic partnership with Athenahealth, one of the largest healthcare technology providers in the U.S. This deal will make Abridge’s AI-powered documentation tools available to more than 160,000 clinicians within Athenahealth’s network.

Similarly, Abridge CEO Shiv Rao called the partnership a major step toward standardizing AI-driven documentation in the healthcare industry.

“Our mission is to give clinicians more time with their patients and less time on paperwork,” Rao said. “With this partnership, we’re expanding our AI capabilities to reach even more healthcare providers.”

The collaboration is expected to increase adoption of AI medical scribes, allowing more hospitals and clinics to automate tedious documentation tasks and improve physician efficiency.
